Background on the Watershed Restoration Fund:
The Anne Arundel County Department of Public Works has estimated that the outstanding stormwater impacts to our waterways top $1 billion. Stormwater continues to be the major cause of pollution to the South River. The Federation has been keeping the pressure on the County to create a SMART Fund, a dedicated source of restoration dollars for stormwater-related damage caused to our streams, creeks and rivers. At this point, it looks like a revised bill, assessing a fee on new impervious surfaces (and a flat fee on existing impervious), will be re-introduced and placed before the County Council in early 2009.
